how to whitelist email address

How to whitelist an email address?

Did you ever receive a phishing email targeting your crypto holdings?

You probably have if you ever signed up for an airdrop, most of the ICOs or if you bought a Ledger Wallet before their customer database got hacked.

The best way to protect yourself from phishing emails is to use strict spam rules in your email client. Most email providers like Gmail or Tutanota will take care of that very well, you don’t need to set up anything.

The side effect is that even legitimate crypto emails usually end up in the spam bin though.

The fix is easy:

  • Whitelist your newsletter email addresses as soon as they send you the subscription confirmation.
  • Leave everything else to fall into the spam folder.

Below is how to mark a sender as safe in Gmail, Apple Mail and Outlook.

How to whitelist an email address in Gmail

whitelist an email address

In Gmail, start by adding the sender to your Contacts.

  1. Open an email with the sender you want to safelist
  2. Move the cursor over the From email address
  3. If the address is not in Contacts, Gmail will offer you to add it.
  4. Select Add to Contacts

In most cases, this will be enough to always receive emails from this sender.

Should an email still go to Spam, open it from there and select Report not Spam.

  2. Go to the Message tab
  3. Choose Junk > Never Block Sender

Should an email still go to the Junk Email folder:

  1. Open the email from Junk Email

  3. Choose Report Message > Not Junk
  4. Confirm the action in the dialog: Report as not junk? > Report
  5. Choose Junk > Never Block Sender
